oak garden table and benches
The brief from Omer and Belinda was to create a substantial oak garden table and benches constructed from locally sourced timber to provide comfortable seating for long alfresco dining on the large patio that would link their beautifully appointed house to the lush garden at the rear of the property.
A 250 year old oak that died standing in a meadow on the National Trust Ashridge Estate some 20 years ago provided the timber. Natural weathering through the seasons has created the gorgeous colouring and characteristics that are brought to the fore and featured. Each set of legs sit within each piece of furniture in the same relative position to each other as they were in the tree. This also applies to the table top boards, which were cut from three sequential tree trunk slabs.
All three pieces are constructed with traditional mortice and tenon joints that are secured with strong, exterior glues and a variety of oak dowels.
